The Final Last Update - Hirelings
Alright fellow delvers, dungeon raiders, and solo warriors of the dark lands, here is the final gift I have for you on this game: Hirelings.
Yes, you read that right, HIRELINGS in this game about just ONE sword.
I toyed with this idea for a while, and finally decided to bite the bullet and throw it in there for people who were struggling to play with their character, or who kept feeling like they were missing something in a dungeon because they just didn't have the right skill set. Well; now you can hire it out. This update adds 2 new pages (also included as a separate download) to the book. I did some slight shuffling of page display so yes, it still prints correctly in booklet form! (104 total pages)
HIRELINGS:
- They do NOT aid in combat. You are still on your own when it comes to that, but they will carry a torch, gear, and anything else you may need for that mission.
- They DO provide up to +3 additional skill bonuses that you get to distribute how you want. If you want an expert on Sorcerous Lore, and get lucky with a +3 hireling answering your ad, you can put all 3 of those skill points into that skill.
- Hirelings cost you PER DAY with a 1 WEEK advance. This means a hireling that costs you 5 silver per day, costs you 35 silver just to hire. They also demand a 10% cut of any loot you find. Yes, that is per hireling. So if you have 5 hirelings, thats a 50% reduction in loot, and a massive weekly bill for their services. Spend wisely
- Loyalty - Hirelings don't want to be adventurers, they want to do a job. Each time you put them in danger, or each time you conclude your adventure, you must check to see if they stick around
- Your hirelings can die. While enemies will not attack them in combat, if you go down there is a 1-in-6 chance they go down with you. However, there is also a 1-in-6 chance that they save your life.
- You have to give them what you want them to have. They will not spend their own funds on goods for a mission. If you want them to carry a lantern, you have to buy it for them.
- Finally, it includes a new random table that provides each hireling with a reason for joining you, and a personality quirk to make them a bit more interesting to have around.
I am now 100% out of ideas for what to do for this game so I think we can actually say this is the final last update. I am so glad that some of you are enjoying this as much as I enjoy it.
Thanks, and happy delving!
